Battisborough House
Battisborough House is a fine, south-facing, detached Victorian house with outstanding sea views. Owned and operated by Hall Grove School Ltd as a residential Field Study Centre, it is located in an idyllic location overlooking the sea on the South Devon coast.
Originally built as a seaside family home, it was for 30 years a boarding school. Now it has been transformed back into a spacious, comfortable house with occasional reminders of its former purpose, i.e. some dormitories - ideal for the Harry Potter dream.
From Year 4, boys and girls visit Battisborough annually to carry out fieldwork projects. This has proved to be an excellent way of enriching their classroom studies and helps prepare them for Common Entrance and future exams. In addition, the children learn about living away from home in a community, which is of enormous benefit to all pupils and of special importance to those going on to boarding senior school.
There are 6 acres of grounds, including a hard tennis court, a riding arena, a small football field, a badminton and croquet lawn, woodland for making dens and a large terrace which runs the length of the house.
The school has a close relationship with the neighbouring farm (arable, cattle, dairy, geese, sheep) which means that each year group of children can visit the farm, talk with the farm manager and see its workings over the changing seasons.

Also within the grounds is a ceramics studio where a wonderful local potter works. His incredibly colourful and vibrant sculptures, along with functional homeware, are amazing works of art. www.richardgodfreyceramics.co.uk
