Sport at Hall Grove
The school firmly believes that a 'sport for all' philosophy together with a strong pursuit of excellence can operate with great success alongside each other at all levels.
Throughout the school we endeavour to give the children the opportunity to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of a wide variety of sporting activities as they progress from Pre-Prep through to the senior part of the school.
Boys' Sport
The major games for boys are football, rugby, hockey and cricket. The school has a strong and competitive fixture list in all three terms (over 100 football matches and over 90 rugby matches were played during the 2009/10 academic year).
Girls' Sport
The major sports for girls are netball, hockey and rounders. In 2009/10 the girls achieved tremendous success despite competing against larger schools. All the girls participate in a varied sporting programme.
Where appropriate, the boys and girls participate together (e.g. athletics, tennis and swimming).
Staffing:
Mr Greg Joll is Head of Boys' Games.
Mrs Katie Lewis is Head of Girls' Games.
We have an experienced and dynamic team of games staff including a number who have competed at Commonwealth Games and at international level in a range of disciplines.
The children also get the opportunity to participate in a wide range of other sports including gymnastics, fives, dodgeball, basketball, judo, cross-country running, tennis, golf, athletics and swimming. There are also inter-school and inter-house fixtures in most of the above sports.
Sporting Tours
A number of Sporting Tours take place for the Middle and Upper School boys and girls.
In the Autumn term the girls visit Jersey to play netball against a selection of prep schools and clubs on the island whilst the boys go on a Rugby Tour to the South West of England, playing clubs and schools within Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
There is a biennial Cricket Tour to South Africa for boys in Years 7 and 8, whilst the Colts cricketers go on tour to Somerset.
The Future
We aim for continued development of our fixture list to include even more opportunities for the pupils to represent the school at all levels and age groups, regardless of ability.
